The Shape of Things!

Our big book for the next few week is called "The Shape of Things"  by Dayle Ann Dodds.

This is a neat story about how things are made up of shapes.  This is a good connection to our math right now as we are studying 3D shapes and relating them to real life objects.  Of course, I made up some literacy centers to go with the book.

Here is a rhyming activity.  Click on the picture to download.

A beginning sounds activity. This will be used in a small group with children who need to work on this skill. Click on the picture below to download.

To download the phoneme segmentation activity, click on the picture below.

Our short vowel focus is "e".  The word families we will be focusing on are -en and -et.  Click on the picture below to download a word sort for these word families.
  A real word/nonsense word sort.
Last, but not least, a sight word game.  The first two pages are the sight words from the Harcourt Trophies reading series.  The second set are Dolch words not covered in our series.

For technology, I am going to let them explore with the pattern block tools on our math series' website.

That's all for now.  Hope you find something you can use :)
