My students are just not getting nonsense word fluency. Frankly, it doesn't make much sense to me either! :( But it is a hoop that we must jump through....so I created some nonsense word fluency practice sheets and just to make them more fun added some Scrappin Doodles clip art! Click on the picture below to download.
If you download or pin these, please leave me a comment :)
Thanks! I'll put this to use right away.

Thanks! I plan on using this tomorrow! I was actually going to make something similar tonight until I came across this:)
ReplyDeleteWhy do they have to be fluent in nonsense words? This intrigues me.
ReplyDeleteGreat, thank you!

@Pam...the main idea behnd it is to see that the child is able to see any CVC word and read it...it is more strategy than anything. I have been using Dibels a few years now. My readers ARE stronger, understand how to break a word into chunks, etc.
ReplyDeleteI have noticed that students who have NOT been exposed to such a "skill" do poorly on the test...we have a 5th grader who cannot pass a 1st grade nonsense word test. BUT, he has not been exposed to it.
Make sense?
Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteJust what I was looking for! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteThank you sooo much!!!! I plan on using this with my 1st grade reading class!
ReplyDeleteThank you for providing this. I am not a classroom teacher, I am a homeschooling mother using k12 curriculum. I have substituted many times and when my children attended public school I volunteered weekly. I use online resources to help my kids when they are not understanding a lesson and I need to present it differently. This is very helpful as mid-year Dibels is coming up.
ReplyDeleteLove this--thank you!!
ReplyDeleteHow nice and easy! Love it.
ReplyDeletethank you, finally found a site that will let me print one to work with my 5 year old!
ReplyDeleteThank you these will be a huge help!
ReplyDeleteI've decided to push the nonsense word fluency since it is another trick the students need to perform. I want them to be successful with this task, even though I have seen no data that correlates reading ability with the ability to sound out nonsense "words" quickly. Thanks for the help!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this awesome Freebie!! I'm excited to use it with my students.
