Five Senses-Sound Shakers
We did another lesson on the five senses today focusing on hearing with our ears. First we read the non-fiction book "You Hear With Your Ears" by Melvin and Gilda Berger.
There were erasers, pennies, beads and paper hole punches in the containers to match.
Next we did an activity where we matched sounds in containers. We call these sound shakers. Here is a picture of the shakers. The objects are in film canister like containers.
Here they are open:
Here are some of the kids enjoying the sound shakers. Sorry for the blur, but they were busy shaking :)
Hope everyone is having a great week!

Teddy Bear Math Mats
I took a pass on the Debbie Diller math stations book study this summer because I teach 1/2 day kindergarten and don't really have the time to do math stations. I did think of some ways to have the kids in my room use the manipulatives in a more focused way. So I created some math mats to do with the manipulatives. Here are the sorting and patterning mats for Teddy Bear counters. Click on the picture below to download. If you do download them, please leave a comment. Its nice to know if people find the things you make useful :)

I am almost at 200 followers and I am thinking about doing a giveaway when I hit 200. If anyone would like to partner with me and promote their blog or TPT store, let me know :)

Beginning of the Year Reading Centers
We have started our reading center rotations. Currently, we are doing 3 centers for about 10 minutes each. Our centers are:
Computers: Right now we are working on a letter identification game.
ABC shelf: This currently has two choices, alphabet puzzles and making letters out of playdough
Classroom Library
We will add more choices and more time as the days go on. Learning how to work independently is important so that I can start to pull small groups.
Have a great week!

First week Activities
We are almost into our second week and I am finally posting our first week activities.
Day One: We read "Miss Bindergarten Get Ready For Kindergarten" and drew pictures about what we did to get ready for kindergarten.
On Day 2, we read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle and made caterpillers. The caterpillars are from the TLC book Beginning Lessons.
They made a cute bulletin board in our hallway.
Day 3 -We started our new Social Studies Program. The first unit is called "Who Am I?' We made self portraits of our faces. Then I put them around the "Face" of a Reader bulletin board.
Hope everyone is having a great week!

Mary Wore Her Red Dress
We are going to read "Mary Wore Her Red Dress" by Merle Peek tomorrow.
First we will read the story and sing the song. We always adapt the song to use the kids names and what they are wearing. For example, "Natalie wore her pink shirt". Then each child will make a page for a class book called "We Wore Colorful Clothes". The page and the cover are available below. Just click on the picture to download.
Have a great week everyone!

The graphics are from Scrappin Doodles. I want to say that I have bought an educational license to post Scrappin Doodles graphics on items on my personal blog. I am supposed to have a graphic with a number, but I am not sure how I get it. Do they send it to me? I will be sure to do whatever I need to once I get the information.
Have a great week everyone!
