Off We Go! Sight word game freebie

We will be reading the book,  "Off We Go!" by Jane Yolen and Laurel Molk.

I created a sight word game to go with this book.  We don't have that many on grade level sight words, so I made two sets for those words.  The last set of words are for the above grade level students. Click on the picture below to download.

  Hope someone can use!

Thanksgiving Literacy Activities-Freebies

We just have a two day week this week, so instead of regular curriculum I have some Thanksgiving literacy activities planned.

First, we will be reading these two books:

I have a parent who has Native American heritage coming in to do a presentation on Native Americans today and yesterday and talk about Pow Wows with the students.

I created some phonemic awareness activities for syllable segmentation, beginning sounds, and phoneme segmentation.  Click on the picture below to download.

I made a "Where's the Turkey?" sight word game that was totally inspired by Fran Kramer at Kindergarten Crayons.  To see a picture of what this game would look like, click here to see Fran's post.
Here is my version.  Click on the picture to download. You could also use these as sight word cards.

Last, I created a letter naming fluency sheets for about 3 kids in my classroom that are not solid on letter naming yet.  Click on the picture to download.

I love comments, so please leave me a comment if you find something useful!

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sight Word Bingo

I am home sick today, so what am I doing??  Blog Stalking of course!  :)

Thought I would share a couple of bingo games I made to review sight words.  Our big book for the last few weeks has been "Peanut Butter and Jelly", so I used cooking themed clip art from Scrappin Doodles.

Our sight words are different from last year.  Not only are we doing the words from Harcourt Brace Trophies, but the district also added a bunch more words.  This is because we are using the Where to Start Word Test from Fountas and Pinnell as a common growth assessment.  Not sure how I feel about this yet, but all the kids have made growth from the beginning of the year.

The first set of words are from from Harcourt and the beginning word list of Fountas and Pinnell.  Click on the picture to download.

This second set is from the Level 2 Fountas and Pinnell list, for the kids who know more words.  Click on the picture below to download.

Hope someone can use!

What We Have Been Up To

I have been lax in the blogging department lately, so I thought I would try to catch up and share some photos of what we have been up to...

Poetry Books

We are keeping all our poems in a composition notebook this year.  After, we read the poem, we illustrate it.  This is a good way to show comprehension of the poem.

Book Boxes

Each student has their own book box with books to read at his or her level.  This is a center that is part of our reading center rotations.

Five Senses-We have been finishing up our science unit on The Five Senses.  We did a tasting activity to taste things that were sweet, sour, and salty.  I think the sour gummy worms were the most popular!

We started a social studies unit on our families.  One of the projects that we created was a picture of all the people that we love in our families.
Have a great week!!
