Sense of Smell
We are continuing to study the Five Senses and did an activity with the sense of smell yesterday. First we read, "You Smell With Your Nose" by Melvin and Gilda Berger.
As you can imagine, talking about smelling created some giggles :)
Then we created a chart of our favorite smells.
Next, we did a page in our science journal about good smells and bad smells. Sorry I did not get a picture of that. :)
Last, we did a finish the picture activity. The kids each got 3 cotton balls. One was scented with almond oil and two were not scented. They had to smell the cotton balls and identify the one with the scent and use it to complete the picture of the flower. The other two were used to complete the picture of the hat and snowman. They really liked this.
Have a great weekend!

More Five Senses Activities
Here are some pictures of our science activities that we have have been working on lately.
We have been exploring the sense of sight with magnifying glasses. We looked at feathers with and without a magnifying glass. We also went outside and used our magnifying glasses to look at things in nature.
The science table is now open in our room. This area gives the kids a chance to further explore some of the activities that we do in science. Right now, there are the sound shakers and different textures to touch. There is also a fall sensory box with different fall items to explore. Of course, there are also magnifying glasses!
Have a great week!

Jack-o-lanterns
We celebrated the beginning of October by reading the book "Five Little Pumpkins".
We did the fingerplay a few times. Here is a youtube version.
Then we made jack-o-lanterns with different shapes for the eyes, nose, and mouth. This was a good review of basic shapes.
We added them to the bulletin board outside our class.

Mice Sqeak, We Speak Letter Bingo Freebie
We have been reading the book "Mice Squeak, We Speak." by Tommie DePaola as part of our Harcourt Brace Trophies reading program.
I created a letter naming bingo activity to go with this book for my parent volunteers to use. The letters Mm and Ss are on every board because they were our letter focus for last week. Click on the picture below to download.
Please leave me a comment if you find this useful. And don't forget to enter the giveaway in my previous post!
